Write your thesis with BWSC!

Looking for an exciting way to wrap up your studies? We have quite the story!

Two students from the Copenhagen School of Marine Engineering and Technology Management are embarking on the last stretch of their bachelor’s education – and they have chosen to collaborate with BWSC. Their destination? A legacy client’s plant in the Caribbean.

They will be helping our client solve an ongoing struggle with waste oil coming from power generation, a pressing issue that demands eco-friendly and cost-efficient disposal solutions. In the search for innovative answers for this challenging task, the students have set sail to a beautiful Island in the Caribbean for a field trip. Quite the way to do your bachelor’s thesis, right?

This is not a unique case at BWSC. For years, BWSC and the Copenhagen School of Marine Engineering and Technology Management have fostered a fruitful partnership. We offer the talented marine engineers of this school the opportunity to dive into technically challenging projects for their thesis, and the discovered results often translate into real-world implementations.

After a successful thesis defense, many launch their professional careers with BWSC, and let their unique skills and interests pave the way for their future. Some stay and continue to be an integral part of our mission, while others venture out to other major Danish players, who share our vision of striving for Net-Zero, driving the green transition and creating a sustainable future for all.

Successful outage at the Snetterton plant

Yet another successful outage performed at the Snetterton Biomass plant!

This past September, the annual outage for our Snetterton plant was undertaken. The plant had been performing with a YTD availability above 96% and to secure similar high performance during the next years, a broad scope of works was included in this outage including more than 20,000 hours of work.

The BWSC O&M team held a “Contractor Safety Day” a month before the outage, during which the “1 Team, 1 Goal, 1 Standard” initiative – with focus on quality, teamwork and delivering a safe outage – was rolled out. Following the outage and thanks to the great teamwork of all members, we can happily announce that all objectives were achieved and the quality standards for the works met in a safe manner.

This outage involved a broad work scope, including:
– Turbine gearbox replacement,
– Extensive preventative tube replacement within the boiler,
– Wet ash conveyor overhaul,
– Flues gas treatment plant overhaul, including catalyst super structure upgrades

Following the completion of the works, we received very positive feedback, that motivates us to want to do better. Here a few of our favourite:
– ‘Site wide everyone seemed to be working with a positive attitude and as one team’
-‘The pre-outage planning and time invested by the site prior definitely paid dividends. The 1 Team, 1 Goal, 1 Standard was definitely seen between working parties’

BWSC at Career Day in MSK

This September 28th, BWSC once again participated in Career Day at the Copenhagen School of Marine Engineering and Technology Management (Maskinmesterskolen København) in Lyngby.

We were thrilled to be a part of this event again and to have the chance to connect with talented students who are shaping the future of marine engineering. We shared with them how BWSC can be a great place to kick-start a career as an engineer, either through our hands-on internship programs or our full-time positions for recent graduates.

This fair always turns out to be a place for us to meet great talent. Currently, we have two bright interns that found us at our last Career Day and that have now gone on to doing exciting projects in places like the Bahamas!

If you are curious about our career opportunities as a student, you can read more in our student page here. You can also find out how it is like to be a BWSC employee here.

To find other fairs we usually attend, check out our Where to Meet Us page found here.

Successful superheater replacement in the Middle East

At BWSC, we are dedicated to delivering excellence in every project we undertake.

Recently, we completed yet another project successfully for one of our esteemed clients in the Middle East.

This project was made possible through the collaboration between our trusted local partner and the skilled BWSC Boiler Field Service team. It consisted of the replacement of a superheater no. 2 on an Aalborg Water tube 110 T/hr. boiler. Our scope included the design, delivery, and installation of the new superheater, after effectively removing the old superheater to ensure a seamless transition.

We are delighted to share that the boiler is now fully operational, meeting our client’s highest satisfaction. This achievement is just another example of our commitment to efficiently delivering high quality solutions to our valued clients.

This sort of work is, however, just a small fraction of what we do. We have a vast offering of Boiler solutions that you can get to know more about on our Boiler Solutions page found here.

Prioritize fire safety and prevention with BWSC

Many businesses in emerging markets, despite facing complex challenges, are resolute on their transition towards greener energy. However, today they face increased pressures from insurance companies, that emphasize the need for risk mitigation on existing power generation assets, which calls for increased investments in safety and prevention. At BWSC, we want to help companies meet these new standards effectively.

In August, we completed the installation and testing of a fire suppression system upgrade at a legacy clients’ plants in the Caribbean, replacing the existing foam suppression system with a new manual deluge water spray fire suppression system featuring a supplemental F-500 encapsulating agent. This agent not only improves fire safety and heat absorption, but it is also a biodegradable solution, and so it is environmentally friendly.

Nowadays, technological advancements like this are essential for existing power plants and often the key to persuading insurance companies to provide coverage. This has been a trend across many markets, regions, and technologies, where we witness special importance being given to this fire safety and prevention, as well as other things such as cybersecurity due to the introduction of the new NIS2 regulations.

If you are looking to future-proof your power plant, BWSC is here to support you. Let’s collaborate for a safer, greener, and more resilient future. Contact us today.

BWSC featured in mini-series by Green Hydrogen Systems

Recently, some of our employees partook in the exciting project being carried by Green Hydrogen Systems (GHS). GHS has an ongoing mini series following the electrolyser prototype journey.

The second episode of this series is focused on the installation and testing of this unit and it takes place at its new home – GreenLab in Skive.

Green hydrogen plays a crucial role in the energy transition, and we are happy to be part of its progress. Our support for Green Hydrogen Systems (GHS) in their GreenLab Skive installation has been a very rewarding journey.

A big thanks to GHS for inviting us in on the project and for the good collaboration throughout the project. It’s inspiring to see our colleagues shine in GHS’s latest video!

Giving back to Benin

At BWSC, we believe in giving back to the communities that have received us with open arms. We are very happy to share that this summer we carried out a furniture donation to the SOS village D’Enfants in Benin.

This local organization dedicates itself to working on the development of children lacking parental support. With the donation of the furniture from our Danish headquarters, we hope to enhance the comfort and well-being of these children and help foster a productive environment for learning.

To celebrate, we had a heartfelt ceremony on the 5th of August, at the organization’s site in Cotonou. Here we got to meet the joyful children who will benefit from this donation, and the dedicated members of the organization that made this possible – who we especially thank for this opportunity.

We are genuinely proud to be part of this initiative and look forward to more meaningful projects like this!
