Successful annual outage at the Ichihara Biomass Power Plant

Looking back on a successful annual outage at the Ichihara Biomass Power Plant, there were some unique moments.

Mornings started right – a dynamic synergy unfolded as our dedicated contractors and O&M team gathered for insightful tool-box-talks, fostering a culture of collaboration and safety. What made these mornings even more memorable was the incorporation of a cherished, century-old tradition – the Japanese morning exercise, Radio Taiso, that energized teams and prepared them for the day ahead.

Not only does this show operational excellence; it also showcases Ichihara’s unwavering work ethic, robust Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) culture, and long-standing traditions.

Operating in all corners of the world, we value not just meeting the highest standards of performance, but also embracing the rich heritage and practices that make each of these places special.

Successful outage at the Snetterton plant

Yet another successful outage performed at the Snetterton Biomass plant!

This past September, the annual outage for our Snetterton plant was undertaken. The plant had been performing with a YTD availability above 96% and to secure similar high performance during the next years, a broad scope of works was included in this outage including more than 20,000 hours of work.

The BWSC O&M team held a “Contractor Safety Day” a month before the outage, during which the “1 Team, 1 Goal, 1 Standard” initiative – with focus on quality, teamwork and delivering a safe outage – was rolled out. Following the outage and thanks to the great teamwork of all members, we can happily announce that all objectives were achieved and the quality standards for the works met in a safe manner.

This outage involved a broad work scope, including:
– Turbine gearbox replacement,
– Extensive preventative tube replacement within the boiler,
– Wet ash conveyor overhaul,
– Flues gas treatment plant overhaul, including catalyst super structure upgrades

Following the completion of the works, we received very positive feedback, that motivates us to want to do better. Here a few of our favourite:
– ‘Site wide everyone seemed to be working with a positive attitude and as one team’
-‘The pre-outage planning and time invested by the site prior definitely paid dividends. The 1 Team, 1 Goal, 1 Standard was definitely seen between working parties’

BWSC at the RWM Expo!

This month, BWSC headed to the UK’s largest recycling, resource & waste management event – the RWM Expo, taking place in Birmingham on September 13-14.

This event provides the ideal platform for networking, staying up to date with industry trends and promoting sustainable resource management. RWM fosters insightful discussions, showcases the latest green technologies and serves as a global launchpad for innovative solutions.

What we most enjoyed at this event, though, was the chance to connect with professionals and companies of all backgrounds and needs. Whether they were a developer, EPC contractor, or utility seeking energy plant solutions, we loved to chat and getting to know them.

Our team of experts was all set to set to answer your questions and enjoyed discussing how BWSC is helping shape a greener tomorrow. We offer comprehensive services for power and green energy plants that we had the pleasure to to discuss with many of you.

It was possible to book a meeting with us via the ESS Expo app or simply drop by our booth R-L293. Let’s explore your waste management needs and our innovative solutions together more at future events!

Success at the Ichihara Biomass Power Plant

Last week, our SVP Karsten Valsted Larsen and PD Morten Svanekjær had an exciting visit to the Ichihara Biomass Power Plant to attend the quarterly Steering Committee Meeting with the owners.

We are thrilled to share that the owners expressed their great satisfaction with our collaboration and their unwavering confidence in our O&M team at site, that works hard to ensure the reliable and steady performance of the Ichihara plant.

Thanks to our well-prepared local management and their crew, the plant is in impeccable condition and our team is highly equipped to overcome any technical challenges that may arise in operating a power plant of this nature.

At BWSC, we remain dedicated to delivering excellence in power plant operations. To learn more about our reliable O&M solutions, visit our O&M pages here and here.

BWSC signs 12-year operation and maintenance (O&M) extension agreement

It is a pleasure to announce that BWSC has signed a long-term O&M extension agreement with the owners of Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant. Funds managed by Greencoat Capital LLP took ownership of the plant in June 2020.

The Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant is a 38.5 MW straw-fired Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant constructed by BWSC. BWSC has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant since commissioning in 2014 and was asked to extend the O&M contract till year 2034.  The biomass plant meets the electricity demand of around 65,000 homes and provides low-cost renewable heat to civic and sports facilities in the town of Sleaford.

Greencoat Capital’s ambition is long-term ownership and sustainable operation of the plant, and with this extension of contract trusts BWSC to deliver on this ambition. In addition, BWSC has committed to expand its performance commitments and scope of responsibility thereby reducing the risk profile of Greencoat Capital’s investment.

We are extremely pleased with this extension of contract and the trust that Greencoat Capital shows BWSC by fully committing to us for the complete O&M of the plant”, says Karsten Valsted Larsen, SVP of O&M at BWSC  – and continues, “We are only as good as evaluated by our customers and we are proud that our continued performance on the Sleaford facility and similar biomass plants in the UK gives Greencoat Capital the confidence to extend the contract with BWSC”.

Hugh Unwin of Greencoat Capital comments “Greencoat’s investors are seeking long-term, stable cashflows and a key to achieving this is developing strong and lasting partnerships with our contractual counterparties. BWSC has common goals in terms of the safe and reliable operation of the Sleaford plant and we are pleased to have extended our O&M contract with BWSC until 2034.”
