BWSC is awarded a project to execute a complex engine refurbishment in Cyprus

In November 2023, our client, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), experienced an overspeed incident on unit DE2 at their ICE1 power plant, at Dhekelia Power Station.

To determine the cause of the incident, BWSC conducted a thorough inspection of the engine and generator, which lead to the identification of the issue – The crankshaft had slipped causing the engine to be out of service for an extended period.

After successfully defining the scope of work and identifying the necessary spare parts in collaboration with EAC, BWSC was awarded the repair project in late 2024. With the project in place, the focus now shifts to repairing the engine, to ensure that the power plant returns to efficient operation and reaches its full capacity.

We are proud to support EAC in re-establishing their unit and ensuring the power plant’s long-term performance!

The repair project for EAC is expected to start in Q1, 2025 and the unit to be back online by late Q3 2025.

Exciting news! BWSC has just been listed as a highly attractive workplace for engineering students!

Ingenøren Profilanalyse is a survey that looks over 90 Danish workplaces with the most engineers employed, looking to find out what workplaces stand out in their eyes. In the 24th edition of this survey, 6,751 people have responded, of which 1,228 are students, and 5,523 are professionally active.

We are proud to share that BWSC did especially well in this year’s survey, particularly in the student segment. In the overall company image category, we moved up 45 ranks, placing us in the top 50 companies in the country. Additionally, we improved considerably in the company appeal subcategory, where we moved up over 70 places on the ranking, positioning BWSC in the top 20 most appealing companies for engineering students in Denmark.

We are so grateful to be seen as an attractive workplace for current and future professionals in the engineering area, and we would like to extend a thank you to everyone who has contributed to building up a great working culture and who has helped promoted BWSC as an interesting and exciting workplace.

Successful inauguration of the Ribe Dispensary

We concluded last March on a high note with the successful inauguration of the Ribe Dispensary, commissioned by Rabai Power, and overseen by the two outgoing Board Directors of Rabai Power Limited (RPL) and Rabai Operation & Maintenance Limited (ROML).

This inauguration marks a significant milestone in the extensive and long running CSR program in Rabai, Kenya, that we have been a part of, centered around three fundamental pillars: Education, Health and Water.

The memorable ceremony commemorated the official handing over of the facility to the local stakeholders who have always valued Rabai Power’s continuous support of the community. It also stands as a gracious farewell gesture of the outgoing Board Directors.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact and achievements that will stem from this initiative, reflecting our ongoing dedication to social responsibility.

BWSC Annual Report 2023

In our just released 2023 financial report, we report a revenue of 1,3 billion DKK alongside a net profit of 66 million DKK. The substantial portion of our revenue is derived from renewable energy businesses, currently standing at 76%, up from 58% in 2022. This emphasizes our success in promoting sustainable energy solutions. Our commitment to sustainability has already yielded tangible results, as demonstrated by the successful delivery of two green hydrogen projects in 2023.

During the year we have been dedicated to enhancing the performance of the power plants we operate and maintain (O&M sites) through substantial investments. As a result, we have achieved the highest power production availability ever recorded across the power plants we operate and maintain. Investments herein have impacted negatively on our result for the year, while a strategic sale of shares has had a positive impact on the result.

While our cash flow from operations has shown improvement compared to the previous year, it remained negative in 2023. Efforts are continuing to improve this aspect further as part of the ongoing turnaround of BWSC.

Furthermore, our increased customer focus has led to significant improvements, with our Service order intake experiencing a remarkable 48% increase compared to 2022. This growth is attributed to both a higher volume of orders and the expansion of our customer base, reaffirming our dedication to operating as a dedicated Service provider catering to a diverse clientele rather than relying solely on large orders.

Glansager Plant Inauguration

On November 3rd, the Glansager Bio Power-to-X plant celebrated its official inauguration with distinguished guests, including our Minister of Commerce, Morten Bødskov.

This pioneering project, financed by Andel and Nature Energy, has the purpose of upgrading the 40% CO2 contents in biogas to natural gas through a biological conversion process, using hydrogen generated from wind and solar energy.

The key components for the hydrogen plant, the electrolyzers, have been supplied by Stiesdal Hydrogen, with whom BWSC have had a close and fruitful cooperation, both companies as sub-suppliers to Andel.

BWSC are grateful and proud to be a part of this groundbreaking technology project, where we contributed with, engineering, installation, and essential equipment including a control and operation system.

The event received media coverage in Denmark, and our CEO, Jens Peter Koch, and CCO, Dimitris Likouressis, were present at the event proudly representing BWSC, along with key members of our team.

Fostering student opportunities

At BWSC, we are dedicated to nurturing young talent, so we maintain a close relationship with Maskinmesterskolen København, a school for marine engineering education.

We believe their students represent the future of engineering in Denmark, and we often welcome them as interns or full-time employees at our company. Therefore, we invest in their learning and ensure they are provided with the right support to further their education.

As part of our initiative to develop young talent, we sponsored study trips to Spain and France earlier this October, to enrich these students’ educations with opportunities that allowed them to apply their theoretical knowledge onto real-world, practical scenarios.

Last week, we got to hear about their newfound insights and experiences, as we had the pleasure of welcoming two classes to our Allerød HQ office. During this visit, we shared with them the work we do at BWSC and discussed its relevance to the practical learnings they acquired on their study trips abroad.

BWSC this year has sponsored a total of 7 classes on trips not just to Spain and France, but also to other countries such as Hungary, Czech Republic and Iceland. Every half a year, we receive the recently travelled students, which is always very exciting for us, and we cannot wait to hear about next year’s trips.

Sound interesting to you? To learn more about our student opportunities, visit our student page found here.

Also, do not miss out on watching the experience of our two student interns in Kenya!
