Reducing environmental impact of Fynsværket

At BWSC, we strive to help plants reduce their environmental impact.

Currently, we have an ongoing project that is successfully doing just that. At Fynsværket plant, we are conducting the conversion from coal to gas fueling at their boiler no. 7, and we are very glad to report that all is progressing as planned.

This project was restarted early spring 2024, after more than one year suspension due to the volatile situation on gas supply. Thankfully, we are now able to resume this work, and the 12 old coal burners installed in 3 levels have already been dismounted. Installation of the new gas burners is now being carried out concurrently with the installation of new gas pipes and burner control units.

We expect the completion of the work to take place in late fall 2024, whereafter boiler no. 7 will operate on gas, reducing the environmental impact of the plant substantially.

Vendor Appreciation Event at BPL

BWSC recently had the pleasure of attending a fantastic “Vendor Appreciation Event” hosted by one of our most esteemed clients, Bahamas Power and Light (BPL).

We have long enjoyed a fruitful relationship with BPL, built on the foundations of honesty and collaboration. We are thankful to BPL for the invitation to this great event, that provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the numerous successful projects we have collaborated on over the years.

If you are seeking an experienced, fully independent provider of O&M, engineering, contracting and services, upgrades, spare parts and training, we can assure you that we will be committed to assisting you in the most effective way possible.

Prioritize fire safety and prevention with BWSC

Many businesses in emerging markets, despite facing complex challenges, are resolute on their transition towards greener energy. However, today they face increased pressures from insurance companies, that emphasize the need for risk mitigation on existing power generation assets, which calls for increased investments in safety and prevention. At BWSC, we want to help companies meet these new standards effectively.

In August, we completed the installation and testing of a fire suppression system upgrade at a legacy clients’ plants in the Caribbean, replacing the existing foam suppression system with a new manual deluge water spray fire suppression system featuring a supplemental F-500 encapsulating agent. This agent not only improves fire safety and heat absorption, but it is also a biodegradable solution, and so it is environmentally friendly.

Nowadays, technological advancements like this are essential for existing power plants and often the key to persuading insurance companies to provide coverage. This has been a trend across many markets, regions, and technologies, where we witness special importance being given to this fire safety and prevention, as well as other things such as cybersecurity due to the introduction of the new NIS2 regulations.

If you are looking to future-proof your power plant, BWSC is here to support you. Let’s collaborate for a safer, greener, and more resilient future. Contact us today.

Power Plant Fuel Conversion in Guam

Reducing the environmental impacts and pollution of power plants is at the heart of BWSC’s activities to always provide “Ever better energy”.

There are many ways to act and that is the case of Guam Power Authority (GPA) and Marianas Energy Co. (MEC) who selected BWSC to convert their 2-stroke generation units from Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) to Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) on Piti Power Plant.

Now that the project is completed, the SOx emissions will drastically decrease by 99% or more, together with particulates by approximately 50%, and CO2 emissions by roughly 70%. The local air quality for nearby residents and the environment will notably improve due to the pollution’s reduction.

This project is part of GPA’s Clean Energy Master Plan to use cleaner fuel and complies with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and will also ensure that the facility continue to operate in the many years to come.
