New MAN Engine Installed at Aasiaat CHP in Greenland

09 Dec 2024

A damaged generator prompted Nukissiorfiit to replace the old MG5 diesel engine with a new MAN diesel engine.

BWSC was contracted to handle the project, which involved removing the old engine, designing, and delivering auxiliary equipment, modifying the DCS system, installing the new diesel engine and auxiliaries, and conducting testing and commissioning.

In early spring 2024, the old engine and auxiliaries were dismantled and sent to Denmark for environmentally responsible scrapping. A new base foundation was prepared to accommodate the different setup of the new engine.

The new engine arrived in Aasiaat in June, was transported to the site, and carefully slid into place. Installation and connection of the engine and auxiliaries began in August. Although the engine was ready to start in October,

its commissioning was delayed due to the unavailability of the correct lubricating oil.

The engine has now been successfully started and tested at full load. Congratulations to Nukissiorfiit and the BWSC Team for achieving this important milestone!
